MTV chose Lady Gaga as “Woman of the Year” because “there's no one who challenged, provoked, entertained and, well, titillated us over the past 12 months quite like she has.”
MTV said, “Her message is provocative but positive, and she’s smart enough to engage her audience (with tweets and constant reminders of how much she loves her ‘monsters’) and still always keep them guessing.”
I absolutely agree with this award by MTV. Lady Gaga (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) totally dominated the music scene and is a no-holds-barred fashion trendsetter, unmatched by any of her competitors.
Lady Gaga's debut album The Fame was released in August 2008 and was a critical and commercial success, selling over eight million copies worldwide. Her four singles “Poker Face,” “Just Dance,” “Paparazzi” and “Love Game” all topped the Billboard Pop Songs chart.
Perhaps the crowning glory for Lady Gaga is to be tagged as the “new Madonna,” and the Queen of Pop herself had approved of it.
To think that Lady Gaga was only an unknown dancer in lowly night clubs when she first started out. Yet today, she is a phenomenal music icon.
2009 is indeed the year for Lady Gaga. What do you guys think?
